The story follows (Sarita Choudhury), whose Indian family was expelled from Uganda in 1972 under Idi Amin's regime. Resettled in Greenwood, Mississippi, Mina works at an Indian-owned motel and begins a passionate romance with Demetrius (Denzel Washington), a local Black carpet cleaner.
