Ironically, community-patched and ported software often outperforms the official versions. A "cracked" executable frequently removes "phone-home" bloatware, resulting in faster load times. A community "patch" might unlock frame rates or restore deleted content. For example, many PC ports of console games launch with broken textures; a fan-made patch can fix these issues years before the official developer issues an update. Thus, the "patched" label signifies a superior user experience.
